Staying in Split

Split is built in and around the remains of a Roman emperor's palace, and it wears its history more casually than most cities. Diocletian's Palace is not a museum - people live, shop and drink coffee inside its walls. Beyond the old town, the Riva waterfront promenade and the Marjan hill offer some of the best walks on the Croatian coast.

It is also the main ferry hub for the islands - Hvar, Brac and Vis are all within reach. The hotels below are well-reviewed and listed at honest rates.
